WITBN unveils new logo

The World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network (WITBN) network Board is excited to present a new WITBN Indigenous logo.

The not-for-profit organization is an alliance of Indigenous Broadcasters from five different countries around the world which includes Whakaata Māori, National Indigenous Television (NITV) in Australia, Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) in Canada, NRK Sápmi in Norway and Taiwan Indigenous Television.

This logo refresh aligns WITBN with its core values and audience by giving the new logo more of an indigenous feel. The logo shows the world that the WITBN business is going in a new indigenous direction and can be used across a wide variety of platforms.

The new design creation is by Māori artist Turumakina Duley. Turumakina has been practicing the art of Ta Moko since 1994 and is known in Australia, New Zealand and around the world for his tā moko work.

 The meaning behind the design

The song line pattern in the W is symbolic of a gathering around a fire, where stories are told and taught.

The poutokomanawa in the I represent the knowledge holder

The feather pattern in the T is from Native Canada representing oversight, big picture, and ascension above the challenges of broadcasting indigenous stories

The spirals in the B are from the Pictish culture, representing learning from the past to grown into the future

And the zigzag pattern in the N stands for the transmission of stories via the many digital platforms and of Television.
