Hawaikirangi is the name given to our new production and training facility. Hawaikitangata is the name given to our existing premises. Both names are inspired by the spirit of Hawaiki, the place recognised by many people as the ancestral homeland for Māori. Hawaiki is referred to as a place of origin, and a place of resting for those that have passed away. Hoki atu koe ki Hawaiki nui, ki Hawaiki roa, ki Hawaiki pāmamao. Hawaiki has relevance for all people and cultures because we all have origins, stories, and cultural heritage. This is not just a Māori concept but something that can relate to everyone.
It is said our ancestors placed this knowledge and history in the skies so that wherever they travelled across the world they would see and be reminded of these stories of their homeland. We refer to this as Hawaikirangi. Those same stories exist today in the stars and in the skies for today and for future generations.
The light and beauty in the sky seen in the stars and constellations represent the people, culture, and stories of Hawaiki. This is called Hawaikirangi.
Hawaikirangi is used as a source of inspiration and to challenge us to be innovative and be creative, to push the boundaries of who we are and what we know beyond our limits to do amazing things that deserve to be recorded in the night sky stars.
The stories we share shape the world in which our tamariki mokopuna will grow up and how the world perceives them. We aim to inspire a passion for the Māori language and culture among those who come to our building and audiences worldwide who engage with our content.
