Then were eight. After twelve weeks of competition, hundreds of hopefuls have been whittled down to just eight kaiwaiata (singers).
The grand final of 5 MINUTES OF FAME, will be broadcast live in a two hour special from 7.30PM on Wednesday 21 December 2022 – on Whakaata Māori and MĀORI+.
There are four age categories: Under 16, Male 16+, Female 16+ and 50+. The winner of each category wins a trophy and $10,000.
Resident vocal mentor and judge Bella Kalolo-Suraj (Ngāti Porou, Hāmoa, Tonga) will be joined by guest judges, opera supremo and entertainer, Luke Bird, and R&B singer-songwriter, Ria Hall.
Matai Smith will be performing host duties.
Of the eight contestants in the Grand Final, three live in Tāmaki Makaurau, three from Tairāwhiti and one each from Kaiharakeke (Flaxmere) and Roretana (Rolleston).
