Whetū is passionate about promoting Māori language and culture through the arts and is a producer and director of theatre, television and feature films.
She serves her community as Chair of Aotearoa NZ Film Heritage Trust Te Puna Ataata, is a Crown appointed Māori representative on Toi Aotearoa Creative NZ board, a board member of InternetNZ, Te Pou Ārahi Tikanga for Playmarket NZ, and a member of the Whanganui District Community Arts Funding Committee.
Whetū is a former Station Manager of Te Reo Irirangi o Whanganui and member of Te Whakaruruhau o Ngā Reo Irirangi Māori and a former Chair of Ngā Aho Whakaari Māori in Screen.
In 2019 she was awarded the Mana Wahine tohu by Women in Film and Television NZ and Wairoa Māori Film Festival in recognition of her work promoting Māori culture, te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and the welfare and stories of wāhine.
